When it comes to gaming, whether we are talking about PC gaming, or console gaming, the normal list of additional items that come to mind is usually a good chair, a racing wheel for those who like to play racing games, a wrist wrest, or thumb grips, and that is about it.
However, some gamers go above and beyond an invest in something known as gaming glasses.
Yes, you have heard me right; gaming glasses are becoming more and more common over the last couple of years than they used to be at some point when they were launched.
Whether they are actually good or just a way to grab money is still up for debate, but market research has proved that these glasses are actually selling like hot cakes, and they happen to be in a high demand.
Well established companies like HyperX and Gunnar have earned quite a name for themselves in this market.
That is why today, we decided to look at some of the best gaming places that you can buy.
I had the chance to review them as well, and while they are not my cup of tea, I can assure you that they cause somewhat lesser strain on your eyes, and hence they are actually not entirely a gimmick.
As for the rest, it is completely up to your personal preference as that is something we cannot change. To keep things simple, we are only going to look at 5 of them.
1. Pixel Eyewear – Official Website
The first pair of glasses on our list is Pixel Eyewear, and as a matter of fact, they do not look gamer-esque at all.
They look simple, and something that you can carry in your backpack, and wear on a date, or a meeting.
The point here is that if anyone is looking for simplicity, and still want to protect their eyes, these glasses are certainly made for them.
It comes with anti-blue light tint, protection against UV rays, they ae also anti-glare, and they have a very simple, black frame that these my favourite gaming glasses because I do not have to be embarrassed to wear them.
These are not the glasses I will only wear when I am gaming, these are something that I will whenever I am out.
However, the one thing that I do not like is the anti-blue light tint, because that can make things look not as nice, even though it is meant as a protection.
Pros
- They look incredible.
- They can actually protect your eyes against harmful rays.
- Can be worn anywhere.
Cons
- The anti-blue light tint might not be for everyone, especially designers or content creators as they prefer accurate colours.
2. HyperX Gaming Eyewear – Official Website
HyperX, a company operating under Kingston is known for their amazing gaming peripherals like their Alloy Elite keyboards, their mice, and their headphones.
So, when they finally released a pair of gaming glasses, I was taken aback by shock.
I honestly did not think that a company would release something like this, but here we are, looking at HyperX Gaming Eyewear.
To start off, HyperX has kept things somewhat similar; the entire frame of the glasses is nice, deep black with red accents, it would not have been a HyperX product without the red. There is minor branding here and there, and nothing is over the top.
Again, the glasses do protect against blue light, buit thanks to the MR-8 material on the lens, there is no colour distortion whatsoever.
They are also versatile, so you can definitely wear them on if you prefer to. However, if you have prescription glasses, then I would suggest you stick to them.
Pros
- Just the right amount of stylish.
- Great protection against harmful elements.
- They cause no colour distortion.
Cons
- Although they look great, the red accent may distract some people, and not in a nice way.
3. Felix Grey – Official Website
Felix Grey is not a gaming company, as a matter of fact, the glasses they are making look nothing like gaming glasses, and that is actually good.
Company aims to serve those who are looking for glasses that will protect their eyesight properly, and without the glasses looking odd or out of place to begin with.
They have an assortment of frames available, and these frames are largely unisex, so you really do not have to worry about buying something that does not fit.
In addition to that, a really important thing that you need to know is that these frames are available in an assortment of different colours so you definitely have the choice to spice things up.
They have the blue lighter filter, and I can assure you that it does not distort colours either.
Overall, Felix Grey is actually my favourite pair so far, because of the versatility.
I do not have to buy two separate glasses; I can just use this one whenever I want, wherever I want.
Pros
- Incredibly versatile.
- Available in a variety of colours.
- Comfortable to wear.
Cons
- Could use a bigger assortment of designs.
4. Crizal Prevencia Glasses – Official Website
The second last product on this list is again something that is not marketed as a pair of gaming glasses, but checks all the boxes that are required in a pair of gaming glasses, and hence, it has found its way here.
I am talking about Crizal Prevencia Glasses; these glasses are made with one thing in mind; protection against the blue-light that can be a lot more harmful for your eyes than you can imagine. In addition to that, you also get protection against UV light, so you are good to go.
They are relatively inexpensive as compared to some of the other glasses in the market, and that is for the good.
The lens is coated with the material that prevents any sort of colour distortion and helps people see in a better, more efficient manner as well.
Overall, the Crizal Prevencia Glasses are actually really nice, because I will not look pretentious wearing them outside.
Pros
- They look simple, and very understated.
- The protection against UV light, along with blue light is a huge benefit.
- The glasses can be worn anywhere by anyone thanks to their design.
Cons
- None at all.
5. Gunnar Intercept Amber – Official Website
If you recall, I talked about how Gunnar was one of the main brand when it came to gaming glasses. Well, the list would not be complete without adding a product for them so here are.
The Gunnar Intercept Amber is actually a lot different from the standard list of Gunnar glasses, as this one does not have the aggressive, gamer look to it, so you are good to go.
It is available in a variety of different colours, and the best part is that you can get prescription lenses for these glasses as well.
The important bit here is that the Gunnar Intercept Amber have lenses with amber tint; this tint is there to provide protection against blue light, UV light, and other harmful tints that can disrupt your overall experience. That is why these glasses are so good.
Due to their legendary quality, and reputation, these glasses are somewhat expensive than some of the the other options but thanks to Gunnar’s reputation in the market, I would suggest these without a doubt as they do their work, and they look amazing while doing so.
Pros
- The glasses are comfortable to wear.
- Stylish and easy on the eyes.
- Available in different styles, as well as tints.
- Can be converted into prescription glasses as well.
Cons
- The tint might be a bit too much for some.
Conclusion
I personally feel that the term “Gaming glasses” is bit too aggressive to be honest. There is no reason to call them gaming glasses unless they contain flares like RGB lighting, or something entirely different, and I hope to god that does not happen any time soon.
With that said, I was skeptic when I had the chance to review these five brilliant glasses. I did not know what to expect either, but I had heard about Gunnar glasses before, so there was a slight idea as to what I am getting myself into.
These glasses do work, and they are actually good for your health; especially if you are someone who suffers from sleeping issues, these glasses can help you a lot.
The thing is that blue light can cause sleeplessness, and that is why most of the people who spend a lot of time using their computers, or smartphones go through this.
With that said, if you are concerned about your eyes too, then there is no harm in buying these gaming glasses, because your experience with them will be relatively better than your standard glasses.
If you do wear standard prescription glasses, then you can even convert these gaming glasses into prescription lenses for the best possible experience that will not be disappointing to you.
