There is no denying that online gaming is something that is becoming increasingly popular in the modern day and age.
Especially when you take a look at games like Counter Strike: Global Offensive, DoTA 2, Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds, and Fortnite.
The list goes on and on, and many publishers have gone on the record and state that single player games are dying.
However, I do not entirely agree with that statement because games like Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, God of War, Witcher 3, and Horizon: Zero Dawn are the proof that single player games are here to stay.
Without digressing, I have to tell you that this article is not about whether single player games are dying or not.
As a matter of fact, we are looking at just what exactly is a good internet speed for gaming.
Lets Start Discuss,
What is a Good Internet Speed for Gaming?
To be honest, one cannot simply list out the speed plan that will be best for online gaming because it depends on various factors.
For starters, many suggest that you need an internet connection with an uplink of 1 Mbit, and a downlink of 3 Mbit. Which seems to be a lot more common than you might think.
However, the story does not end here, and the reason behind that is rather simple. You see, gaming on the internet is not limited to just the internet speed, there are various factors that contribute towards you gaming on the internet.
For instance, you have things like wired vs wireless connection, and most importantly, the ping.
For those who do not know, ping is basically the distance of your computer from the server of the game you are trying to access.
To make it simpler, imagine being in Europe, and playing PUBG; the most ideal server for you would be EU, because you would be in Europe, and the distance would be less.
If, for some reason, you are in a different region, and choose EU, then you would face a higher ping, that drastically effects how games are played.
With that said, no matter the platform you are playing on, one of the most important factors that you need to keep in mind is the ping you are getting, because if you are suffering from a higher ping, your game will lag, and your overall gameplay experience will be tainted beyond comprehension.
According to the experts, the lower the ping is, the better the overall gameplay experience will be.
Nevertheless, if you are wondering what is the best limit, then in my opinion, ping below 100, and 50 in some cases is the best possible ping.
Just know that if you are looking for the best possible experience, you need to play on servers that are closest to you, and in addition to that, you also need to ensure that you are playing through a wired connection because when it comes to wireless connection, you are more than likely to experience packet losses and other similar issues.
